Save Your Finished Movie in Web-friendly Format

Posting your video on the web has become very popular because many people today have fast internet connection.

To post your movie on the web involves 2 steps:

  • Save your finished movie on your computer in a web-friendly format.
  • Upload the movie to the video hosting site on the web.

This tutorial shows you how to save your movie in a web-friendly format. The tutorial immediately following this one will show you how to upload your web-friendly movie file to a video web hosting site.

NOTES
This is just part 1 of a 2-part tutorial on saving your movie on the web. After you have done the homework below, please proceed to watch the next part: Post your Movie on the Web.

Homework

  1. If you haven’t come up with a folder system to store your source files, working files, finished movies, and your iPod Video files (if you plan to upload to iPod) please do so now as explained in the Notes section on the saving your finished movie on your hard drive tutorial.
  2. When you have finished editing your movie in Movie Maker, save your movie with the High Quality Video (Large) format. This will generate a .WMV file.
  3. Go to the folder where you saved the .WMV file in and compare the size of the .WMV file to the .AVI file format of the same movie. ( The .AVI file was homework for an earlier tutorial. You did do your homework, right?)
  4. Double-click on the .WMV file to play the movie.

The version of Windows Movie Maker that I have doesn’t have — High Quality Video (Large) format .WMV file, to choose from.

I have different set of files formats to save to. I am using Windows Movie Maker Version 6.0 (Build 6000). What do you recommend for this version?
